May 31, 2010

Linda is resting comfortably today. She is off the dialysis machine, and slowly but surely being removed one by one from her other IV pumps. She's still connected to the feeding tube, but the doctors say they will probably take that off tomorrow as she has been eating well and taking her oral protein supplements.

Today will be her last dose of steroids as the beginning part of her anti-rejection regimen, so the night time anxiety should be less and less as time goes forward. Later this week the doctors may move her out of the intensive care unit and across the hall to a private room in the regular post-transplant unit. If there is any change in the phone number to her room, I'll let everyone know.

She looks good, her vital signs are strong, and her cheerful personality is rapidly coming back. Seems like her new liver agrees with her.

Linda's sister Debbie was here yesterday, so I was able to go home and get both of us some clean clothes and a few other things we needed, as well as picking up the mail. Our gardening is blooming even in our absence, and everything at home looks just as nice as it was when we left nearly a month ago.

According to Linda's doctors her progress is very good. Thanks again to all of you for everything you have done to help us through this difficult and wonderful process. There's a lot of hard work ahead, but everything goes easier when you have hope. We waited a very long time for Linda's new  liver, and we are extremely grateful for the outcome.
