June 1, 2010

Linda is out of the ICU. Her new room number is 4414. The new direct telephone number is 317-944-9852.

She is off all the machines and all the central lines are out of her veins. She is still on the Foley catheter, but that will come out as soon as she is strong enough to walk to the bathroom. Today she went for X-rays on her fractured shoulder, so the orthopaedic doctors can decide what she needs by way of physical therapy for her left arm. Her legs are still pretty weak, but the physical therapist has started her on exercises for strength, and will be working with her every day now to get her back on her feet. The doctors are still adjusting the dosages of her anti-rejection medications. She is eating with a better appetite, and her liver enzymes and electrolytes are coming into balance nicely, according to the specialists.

Today as we left the ICU she was a lot more cheerful, though the moving did tire her out somewhat. She's certainly strong enough to have visitors if anyone cares to make the trip. Of course it will be about six weeks, we are told, before she is strong enough to come home, but everything is moving in that direction each day we are here.

Thanks again for the cards, balloons and gifts. Every note and phone call helps keep Linda working hard on her recovery. We really do appreciate all your prayers and good wishes.
